Makeup trends of 2020
Trends that made through 2020
Beauty industry have always been evolving from brand new trends to trends from the past. 2020 seems to be the year of elevating the unique features of self and having a natural, radiant glow. As a beauty lover, I do follow makeup trends a lot, of different brands and different artists. The very start of the year has been very promising for trends that have been floating around which have build the foundation for beauty lovers like me to experiment, play around and unleash our inner artist.
Sheer Makeup
Gone are the days, where makeup was used to cover any imperfections on skin while having a cakey face. The more makeup on face, the trendier you are. Since 2019, continuing now to 2020, the rule is “less is more”. People now prefer a more sheer foundation for the skin to look more natural and hydrated. Having a sheer foundation, you can always built up according to your preference and occasion.
Pops of Blues and Neons
More people in these past few months are leaning towards having a trendier eye looks which are different hues of blue. Matte blue eyes, blue shadow with a pop of glitter/metallics or even a blue pencil liner that could be smudged out to become a Smokey eye. Along with this, models or beauty artists are seen using neon shades which are usually matte and creating a very bold colorful eye look. Monochromatic or a shade of two to three neon shades are used in a single eye look to stand out. Must say, if you are the kind of person who wants to try out different looks, is more adventurous or just in the mood then should definitely give it a go.
Coloured Eyeliners
Eyeliner styles have come a long way. “Floating eyeliner” is the style that is trending in right now even in 2021. I am sure a lot of you must have already seen people in the industry wearing it. For those who haven’t, its just liner done above the crease on the eye or on the crease in continuation with regular liner (take it right on the top). Many people just use the regular jet black color but I have seen this being overtaken with different shades with a “Negative Space eye look”. More blues and more neons which can also be paired with the same shade of mascara for the lower lashes giving a pop which I will come to in my next category. These styles look really pretty on absolutely anyone and is a must-try.
Shades of Mascara
Gone are the days where black was the only shade ever know to mankind while picking a mascara (not literally 😉). Now this has been taken over by different shades of mascara. Most common shades which I have seen over the internet are pink, blue, green and purple. You can also have different colors of mascara for your upper and lower lashes and pair it with your liners. I would suggest, if you are thinking of going with a look of floating liner then have a pink mascara on lower lashes which will accentuate the look and takes it one notch up.
All about the Eye
I know I have talked enough about eye trends already, so promise this is the last one. This style has been in the industry for the longest time and so I had to mention it which is “Highlighted Inner Corners”. Yes, our eye looks are incomplete without throwing in some highlight in that little section of the eye which is like the cherry on the top. But instead of using a subtle/bold highlight, you can now experiment with a shade of pink or blue of any of neons.
You can also never go wrong with lots of glitter, to be a glitter babe. Glitter beads or crystals are used over cut crease with subtle eye shades, or glitter shiny stars, “Go all glitter”
And finally, last but not the least, “mismatched Eyeshadow”. If you are the kind of a person who like to experiment, take chances then you should try having a mismatched shade on both of your eyelids, let your imagination take over you!
Stained lips
I feel like people aren’t talking enough about this trend. I am not talking about using a lip stain but staining the lips to make it look more natural skin-like. This idea flows along with having a sheer look. A lot of times, people focus colour on the inner parts of the lips while leaving just a stain on the outside or just a stain all over. This does lasts longer and looks more natural but again it depends on the look that you are going for.
Bold Lips
As the name suggests, people all over are back to using a good old red lipstick. As they say, you can never go wrong with a bold lip. In 2020, I also saw pink bold lips, making its way through. Yes, hard to imagine but it does look gorgeous and again it depends on personal preference. But if you want to make a statement then just go for it!
Pink Blush
Lastly, I would like to end the list of 2020 trends with a simple but yet a makeup essential- “The Blush”. I personally love to wear a blush usually a nude one even if I am not wearing any other products. Consider any season, winter, summer, fall or spring- blush is a “must have” to the look. This year, I have seen many people go for a bright or pinky pink blush. I won’t say it’s a trend as people wear it anyways and this will be present for as long as we know but something to remember.
As the blog suggested, I did focus on makeup/beauty trends for the year. But a major chunk of the past year has been taking care of the skin. People have realised the power of having a skincare routine and benefits of it and this will be implemented for the coming time as well, I am sure by many of us. I would talk upon this in my coming blogs. Until then, please your leave comments below. I would love to hear from you. Also let me know if you have any requests for me.
Stay positive, be humble and always keep smiling. See you in my next blog!
